Via Sean Jones: According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade’s contract with Matchroom Boxing will expire after his match against Zach Parker on May 21. Oh! Hearn is letting one of his best fighters go. Sean Jones was speechless.
After going to great lengths to get top fights for Andrade, Hearn abandoned the ship and let him go.
Hearn works with famous boxers like Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol, so he can afford to let a talented guy like Andrade go.
“Only this war. I expect this will be his last battle with Matchroombe honest with you,” said Eddie Hearn Professional boxing fan about Demetrius Andrade’s contract expiring with the battle of Zach Parker on May 21.
“We tried to do the best we could for Demetrius Andrade without delivering the big fight he needed. We tried everythingand it’s not his fault but it’s not our fault either
As the saying goes, ‘All good things come to an end. ‘ In Andrade’s case, that’s not going so well as he’s been fending off lackluster opposition since signing with Hearn.
Hearn admits that he hasn’t been able to get the matches Andrade wants/needs since he signed with his company and that he feels he should move on.
Hearn discovered that talented, slick male singers like Andrade tended to be shunned by top boxers like the plague, and they would use any excuse to avoid fighting him.
Canelo Alvarez dismissed Demetrius, calling him a “terrible fighter,” then turned around and fought Avni Yildirim, Caleb Plant, and Billy Joe Saunders.
Those are all warriors that Andrade will likely wipe out the deck, but Canelo prefers fighting them to him.
Andrade will be undefeated Zach Parker (22-0, 16 KOs) on May 21 for the interim super-middleweight WBO title at Pride Park Stadium, Derby, UK.
Andrade is moving towards 168 trying to force undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez against him. If Andrade defeats Parker for the interim WBO belt, he will be able to put pressure on Canelo to work against him.
Hearn probably wouldn’t be too happy if Andrade took the title against Canelo after he left Matchroom, but oh well.
Sean Jones doubts that Canelo will decide to fight the lanky 6’1″ Andrade because he is capable of doing many of the same things as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Erislandy Lara did in the battle against him. He won’t want to take a chance.
Canelo and his manager/coach Eddy Reynoso carefully tested their antagonism before opening fire on scuffles. Thus, you see Canelo fight paper champions like Saunders, Plant, Callum Smith, and Rocky Fielding. Even Bivol, he is NOT the #1 guy, or even the #2 boxer at 175, but the #3 boxer, which you could argue is the only reason Canelo picked him.
“I think after this fight, he should consider the options Hearn talks about Andrade. “If we have options available to him, we will recommend them. But we worked really well together, but didn’t have any real interest in each other if that makes sense,” Hearn said.
It’s surprising that Hearn left a boxer with Andrade’s talent, especially when looking at the people in his cage. Andrade will destroy Hearn’s highly rated heavyweight Conor Benn if the two meet, but Conor will not be disqualified.
“He didn’t fight the wars for us, and we didn’t bring him great battles. So unless we can make those big fights, if someone else can, he should go that route and move on.
“We love Demetrius, but he is at a stage in his career where he really needs the big battles. If he can land one, I’m sure he’ll work with us, but if someone else can land it, that’s something he should also consider,” Hearn added of Andrade.
