Deontay Wilder “can be defeated against Helenius” says Eddie Hearn
Via Chris Williams: Eddie Hearn worries that Deontay Wilder could be beaten by Robert Helenius in his next game on October 15 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Hearn doesn’t like the idea of former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) facing dangerous puncher Helenius (31-3, 20 KOs) in his first bout back. after a year-long layoff, you can’t blame him.
Wilder is taking a significant risk facing a fighter like Helenius after 12 months out of the ring and two consecutive knock-out defeats to Tyson Fury.
It sucks that Wilder will be out of the ring for a year, but when you consider that he was knocked out in the last two fights, it seems like a stupid idea to fight someone like Helenius.
Wilder vs. Helenius will be shown on FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
In the main support round, former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant, after a knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez, will face former two-time WBC 168-lb champion Anthony Dirrell.
“I really think he can be defeated against Helenius, to be honest. I think it was a pretty tough fight. It was a good fight. I think he can be beaten in that fight,” Eddie Hearn told iFL TV about his thoughts on Deontay Wilder choosing to take on Robert Helenius.
Hearn wants to fight Wilder against Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora, saying he has plenty of money to invite him.
That seems to be an infinitely better choice for Wilder than against Helenius, as Chisora is a mid laner and the fragile-faced Whyte will lose to Fury.
It is unclear whether it was too late for Wilder to withdraw from the war with Helenius. If so, he should fight Chisora or Whyte rather than that big guy.
“I will create an even greater sadness than I did with Kownacki,” said Helenius. “I’m going to fight for the title, so this is the match to prepare me for that goal. I can only become the best heavyweight in the world by beating the best, and that’s what I plan to do on October 15th.”
Helenius helped Wilder prepare for his three-part battle against Wilder last year. For that reason, Wilder feels comfortable fighting him, but he may have made a big mistake.
