Via Sam Volz: Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder says he’s “definitely” back in the ring to further his career.
Knockout Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) has been inactive since losing a three-part match to WBC belt holder Tyson Fury on October 9 of last year.
Boxing fans have been trying to encourage the tough 6’7 ″ Wilder to return to the fight, but he seems to be enjoying the fruits of his labor.
With a net worth of $30 million, Wilder is enjoying his money doing things he never got the chance to do while hard at work on the whetstone.
If 36-year-old Wilder wants to come back, he needs to do it soon because he’s not young anymore.
For fighters his age having to leave the ring for a long time, it tends to end badly for them when they return from a long absence.
The good news is that if Wilder returns to competition soon, he is likely to face rematch winners Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.
It’s best for Deontay to avoid teamfights with Fury again as he seems to have his number after three skirmishes. However, Fury is now retired and appears to have lost his ambition after making millions fight Wilder and Dillian Whyte.

“I’m just enjoying what I’m doing. To have free time with my family, enjoy business and investment projects, and engage in other hobbies and passions that I already have and enjoy doing that I don’t have time to do.
“At this point, I’m jumping into other passions that I want to do in life and I’m enjoying my life a lot. It is just wonderful. I am proud to be a king and do the things of a king.
“When you have a strong, straightforward heavyweight like me, boxing is great. When you have an interesting heavyweight, boxing thrives. This is what people are witnessing right now.
“When you don’t have that heavy weight anymore, things start going downhill. I’ve had people contact me and say, ‘The parts aren’t the same. We need our champion back. Boxing is boring without him,” said Wilder.
