Mora feels Ryan's hand speed, strength and height make him dangerous for Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), who has been hurt by Joseph 'JoJo' Diaz, Jorge Linares and Vasily Lomachenko .
Sergio felt Ryan get past Haney's jab, moved in close and smashed him with his right hook. Mora didn't mention Ryan's left hook, his go-to punch.
However, Haney may have found a way to neutralize that weapon after weeks of preparation and studying Ryan's loss to Gervonta Davis.
Haney's performance compared to Garcia's strength
“Haney has fought champion after champion in his last seven fights,” Sergio Mora told fight about Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. “Ryan Garcia, we saw him get stopped by Tank Davis. In addition, he fought with Javier Fortuna.
“He [Ryan] has strength, speed and height advantage. So these are the advantages that will be legitimate. If he can get out of Haney's range, look for Ryan Garcia to apply early pressure.”
Haney has a big advantage in experience against stronger opponents. He has fought champions and former champions in his last seven fights and that has helped him improve his game to a level that will be difficult for Ryan to beat.
Break the Jab, look for the punch
“I think Devin Haney has one of the best jabs in boxing. His circle control, his range is difficult to overcome. I don't understand how Garcia can outbox him. I think he has the speed and strength to do it,” Mora said.
“I think Garcia punches better than Haney. Linares shook him and JoJo shook him a few times. Ryan was injured by Tank Davis, one of the best fighters in boxing. We'll see who throws the better punch and we'll tell a lot when that punch lands.”
Getting to Haney won't be easy as he retreats when attacked and he will look to hold out whenever Ryan is within punching range. It will be difficult for Ryan to land many punches before Haney strikes.
“Ryan Garcia has to alternate his jabs. “He couldn't do the jab with Devin Haney because he has better technique with the jab,” Mora said. At this rate, it will be Garcia. If he can shorten the jab, close the distance and use a right hook to the body and a right hook upstairs.
“He has a slick right hook. The body is the key [for Ryan],” said Mora.
