India beat New Zealand by a total of 62 – the lowest Test total of any side on Indian soil – in the first innings of the second Test underway at the Stadium Wankhede in Mumbai on Saturday. Despite leading the first leg of 263 runs, India captain Virat Kohli did not make next on the Kiwis. The decision has surprised a number of former and current cricketers. In the same vein, Indian table tennis player Dinesh Karthik, who is not part of the Indian Trials, explained the reasoning behind Kohli’s decision.
“I have a feeling that you have to understand that there’s obviously a tour of South Africa to follow. If you only have this Test match, you won’t get any extra points if you win three or four. day. I just feel like the more you hit, the worse the match. So they (India) will be easier than New Zealand in the second inning,” Karthik told Simon Doull during an interaction on Cricbuzz. .

“Now they have a chance to beat, they’re leading in the game, and have more than enough runs. But they’re just trying to rub off and make sure all the bases are covered.
“I’m sure they’d love to see (Cheteshwar) Pujara get some runs, Virat Kohli if he gets the chance to hit the ball and score some runs. I think they’ll claim and that’s for sure. It’s not for the bowlers to take a break. I just feel there’s no need for them to rush to declare that the game is three days away,” he added.

“If the scoring system says you will get more points if you get all of them or enforce our tracking then that makes more sense. So I think this decision is correct when they want to beat their beaters,” he added.
After bowling with New Zealand on day 2, Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara led the hosts 69 without losing, leading the away team 332 times.
