Discover the full history of Bioshock | Video games
Now that season 4 of Video Gameography is complete and the Uncharted series has been… charted, it’s heading towards new frontiers and new faces. After saying goodbye to co-host Ben Reeves on a previous episode, we welcome Editorial Contributor John Carson to the podcast as a new co-host alongside current Marcus Stewart. Along with a host of guests, season 5 of Video Gameography will be the exploration and discovery of 2K’s Bioshock brand.
So we cordially ask, would you please follow us into the depths of the sea? We are heading for the city of Rapture, created by and for movers and shakers, unconstrained by the expectations and judgments of the surface world.
Developed by Irrational Games (AKA 2K Boston) and released in 2007, Bioshock has re-imagined and redefined what a modern shooter is. In this episode, we’ll explore the series’ origins stemming from the commercial failures of the beloved System Shock series on PC and the tumultuous development cycle in which Bioshock triumphed despite it. We discuss director Ken Levine’s inspiration for Rapture and its inhabitants like industrial master Andrew Ryan, Big Daddies, Little Sisters, and more.
Join host Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), John Carson (@John_Carson), and Game informant Deputy Editor Wesley LeBlanc (@LeBlancWes) as we unpack the history and story of the first Bioshock!
