The kitchen is the foundation of a home. And, rather, it is a garage of loads of food, ingredients, equipment and tools. Some effervescent foods find a way to use their kitchen utensils for a completely different purpose than they were originally intended. Are you one of them? A Reddit thread asking the same question saw many users responding to their stories about using certain kitchen utensils in surprising ways. While most of them were fun to read at first, when we think back, we feel like we can draw tips from them.

Tea strainer/sifter

In addition to filtering tea, these people have a single purpose of sifting in their kitchens. From picking herb leaves off their stems to smashing egg yolks to get ravaged eggs, who knew a sieve could be a multi-tool.

Tongue

You don’t have to pull out a stool to pick things up on the shelves or top cabinets in your kitchen. A pair of clamps can do the job well.

Cut the pizza

A cutter is a cutter. Why cut only pizza, when you can cut so many other foods with it – cookies, cakes, sandwiches, waffles and others.

Frozen milk

Did you know that you can mix anything with milk foam? The foam on top is just an added bonus. These guys are making latte, latte, scrambled eggs, salad dressings, cocktails and more with ice cream.

Egg slicer

After reading these comments, we will now use our egg slicer to cut strawberries, potatoes, beets and even cheese!

Pancakes

If you bought a cake pan but never used it to bake, here’s all you can do with it. We know we will.

Mixer

Mixers are used almost daily in most meals. To mix vegetables or to grind spices. But these people are also whisking eggs, mashing potatoes, and chopping cooked chicken in them.

Cake cutter

If you’ve never actually cut a pastry with a cutter, you can use it to mash potatoes and cut eggs, just like this person did.

Peeling machine

A peeler can not only peel the outer layer of a vegetable. These comments encouraged us to use it to cut thin strips of cucumbers, cheeses, carrots, and potatoes.

Coffee grinder

Have a coffee grinder at home? Now add seasoning or uncooked rice, herbs or whatever you want in powder form.

Roller Pins

While we’ve seen belan used only to roll rotis, the creators of this invention are also pounding the meat and seasoning it.
