Drake Dragon: 1491kW electric super SUV revealed
California’s supercar startup, Drako Motors, has just unveiled a new electric super SUV to take on competitors like the Lamborghini Urus and Ferrari Purosangue.
The brand says the Dragon will be “price competitive with the existing super SUV segment,” suggesting you’ll expect to pay around $230,000 when it launches.
The car was built in Silicon Valley, where the startup is headquartered, but designed and built in Italy. It will officially launch on November 17.
According to Drako, the Dragon will have a top speed of more than 322km/h and hit 100km/h in less than 1.9 seconds.
A total of 1491kW is provided, powered by the ‘DriveOS four-motor drivetrain and in-house battery system’.
The battery’s thermal management system will be powered by NASA-grade carbon-fibre cooling technology due to the supplier’s partnership with KULR Technology Corporation.
The SUV will feature adaptive three-stage suspension and individual torque control to each wheel for improved off-roading and smooth handling.
The futuristic bodywork is made entirely of carbon fiber and features two gull-wing doors that allow access to the five-seat cabin.
Flying fenders at the rear, a large recess in the bonnet and diagonal lines that cut across the angled LED headlights and taillights are just some of the options shown on the teaser images so far, and more options will be available on launch day.
The SUV was designed by chief designer Drako Lowie Vermeersch, who has been responsible for designs such as the Lightyear One, Ferrari 458, Maserati GranCabrio and Pininfarina Nido.
The first car the startup launched was the Drako GTE, an all-electric sedan that delivers 895 kW of power and a top speed of 332km/h.
It was built on the chassis of the Fisker Karma, one of the world’s first luxury PHEVs that failed due to financial and supply problems.
Only 25 of the startup’s first venture were made for customers around the world, with a hefty price tag of $1.3 million each.
There are no details yet on the availability of the Drako Dragon, but it can be assumed that there will be more available than the GTE – we’ve reached out to Drako Motors for more information on when the SUV will be launched. market.
Pre-orders are now open on Drako’s website and the first 99 customers to deposit $5000 will receive a limited first edition Dragon.
