Sand dunes manager Denis Villeneuve will no longer direct the pilot of the series’ prequel spinoff. The first two episodes of the HBO Max series, now titled Dune: Sisterhoodwill be directed by Johan Renck, one of the directors behind HBO’s Chernobyl series from 2019. Dune: Sisterhood will be released in 2023.
Sisterly love will take place 10,000 years before the events described in Villeneuve’s Blockbuster in 2021 nominated for Best Picture. The series will follow the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a group of powerful women who helped shape political events in the universe. Sand dunes. The series will revolve around a small group of Harkonnen sisters as they form an organization that becomes the mastermind of the mysterious, powerful conspiracy throughout the novel Dune by Frank Herbert.
Renck is currently directing a movie called Spaceman, starring Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano. Renck directed all five episodes of HBO Chernobyl and won two Emmy Awards for her work on the series. He has also directed episodes of Break and Netflix series Lineage.
Although Villeneuve originally intended to direct the pilot, the director is said to have stepped back from the project to focus on execution. Sand dunes part 2. Villeneuve will remain executive producer on the series. Dune: Sisterhood will be written by executive producer Diane Ademu-John (The Haunting of Bly Manor), who will also act as the host of the show.
