EA shuts down Dead Space 2 remake rumors after reports suggest it has been shelved
giant bomb Jeff Grub reported today that EA's Motive Studio is working on one Dead Space 2 remake before it was shelved following the group's lackluster sales Redo dead space last year. However, EA denied Grubb's report, saying IGN“We don't usually comment on rumors but this story has no merit.”
ABOVE giant bomb Game Mess Mornings show, Grubb said, “They were working on it, they were working on Dead Space 2 and they're not working on it anymore. It's on the shelf because the first game had lackluster sales, that is how it is expressed I.”
He continued and added, “Right now, they're working on it; it was in the concept stage…pre-production, and now that piece has been shelved.”
Grubb revealed this today following yesterday's news from Motive itself, where general manager Patrick Klaus announced The studio is forming a new team to support EA's Battlefield franchise while Iron Man game development with Marvel continues. Hours later, EA denied Grubb's claims in a statement IGN.

IGN news director Kat Bailey, who wrote IGNThe story of all this today responded to Grubb saying: “My understanding based on my own sources is that a Dead Space 2 Remake was never considered. Additionally, EA's statement quite decisively.”

And that's where it stands today. Grubb said Motive was working on a remake of Dead Space 2 before it was shelved after lackluster sales of last year's Dead Space remake, and EA says that's not true. Unfortunately, we'll probably never know the real story here, but if you're holding out hope for a Dead Space 2 remake, it doesn't look like that's happening right now.
For what it's worth, we asked Dead Space remake creative director Roman Campos-Oriola about the possibility of remaking Dead Space 2 in a new version. the interview was conducted a few weeks after the game's launch. His answer: “…we'll see how the game does, what the company wants, what the studio wants, we as a team, what we want to do, and we'll figure it out from there. But right now, there are no specific plans determined.”
