Eddie Hearn expects Canelo Alvarez to make a decision this week or next on a two-man duel deal
Via Dan Ambrose: Eddie Hearn says he’s hopeful that Canelo Alvarez will make his decision this weekend or next on whether he agrees to a two-match deal to return to DAZN to face Dmitry Bivol and DAZN. Gennadiy Golovkin in 2022 or not.
Hearn admits that Canelo has an offer from PBC in addition to the two-on-one deal he and coach/manager Eddy Reynoso are deciding on.
What gives Hearn an added impetus that Canelo will decide to go through with their hit-two deal is the recent arrest of Jermall Charlo, as he is the one PBC is inviting the Mexican star to on May 7. 5 in a one-match deal.
What worked against Hearn getting Canelo to agree to his deal was the enormous danger that could arise when he faced Bivol and his old nemesis Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) in consecutive battles.
Given that Canelo hadn’t done a risky fight in previous years since 2018, a lot of people asked him to suddenly show great bravery by facing the WBA light heavyweight champion. Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) and Golovkin this year.
No deal has been done for Canelo
“The numbers [$84 million] is wrong, and no deal has been made, but other than that, it’s very close,” Eddie Hearn told DAZN Boxing Show on Canelo Alvarez, will probably sign a two-man hit deal to take on Bivol and Golovkin in 2022.
“Mike Coppinger bothered me last week. ‘I have heard this; I heard that.’ Nothing has been confirmed yet. He [Canelo], of course, have suggestions from us; he got an offer from PBC.
“You heard Eddy Reynoso come out and confirm it. Nothing has been signed yet; no agreement has been reached. We’re just talking, really. We feel we have a very attractive offer for him,” Hearn said of Canelo.
Even with his recent arrest, Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) might be too hot for Canelo not to take because he’s hurting right now and a person who looks like picky things.
Jermall looked pathetic in his final battle against Juan Macias Montiel, and he has seemingly come back to life ever since.
You hate to say it, but Andre Ward is right about Canelo. He is “opportunist” given the way he chooses his opposition, and it doesn’t make much sense for him if he gives it up to go up against Bivol and Golovkin in 2022.
In Canelo’s case, the old saying may be true. ‘Once an opportunist is always an opportunist.’
Hearn hopes a decision will be made soon
“It is an honor to bring him back to Matchroom and DAZN, but nothing has been confirmed yet. I’m sure, he and Eddy, talking about May 7th, which is twelve weeks away, something like that. So they have some time.
“I hope by the end of this week or next we will have a decision, And hopefully, we get the choice. It’s the dream job, and we’re in it for it. We feel we have a great proposition for him and we would love to work with him again,” Hearn said.
