Elden Ring’s Lone Wolf Spirit Ashes are the best Doggos
Elden Ring only one ashes, ethereal summons you can invoke to aid you in battle. Some, like The Expelled Knight Oleg, are highly effective damage dealers capable of wiping out even the toughest bosses. The others, hm, not so much — look at you, jellyfish ashes. While each has their own strengths and weaknesses, and I’ve found plenty to experiment with, for my money, there’s nowhere near as faithful or wonderful as the lone wolf’s ashes. poison. This pack of spooky wolves has become my favorite summoner, and a prime example of Tarcked’s best friend that exists even in the Lands Between.
Lone Wolf Summon is probably the earliest game you’ll come across when exploring FromSoft’s newest game. Found at Elleh Church, a derelict structure and one of the first churches you’ll visit Limgrave regionGreen-skinned Renna will teach you how to summon souls after you get the ethereal steed Torrents. Talk to her and she’ll give you both the Summoning Bell, an important item for beckoning evil spirits, and the ashes of the lone wolf. Seriously, you can’t miss it — unless you one of many people run the game fast. But if you happen to be polishing it, you can also buy ashes from Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold.
However, this spiritual ash is not particularly powerful. The wolf trio deal moderate damage, even after leveling up, and cannot serve as a tank in any way because of their relatively low health. But what they lack in overall damage, they make up for by acting as a solid distraction during skirmishes. Wake them up and watch as the iconic spectrum leaps, gnaws and swarms their prey, picking them up from their limbs as you just hang in the background. It fills you up while also giving you space to breathe and plan your next move.
However, what I like most about the lone wolf spirit ashes is their loyalty. Sure, all summons follow you after they’re called. But there’s something especially endearing about watching these massive ghost wolves prowl around you, looking for the next target to swing their fangs on. They also seem to attack as a team, coordinating attacks to thwart the enemy. These wolves are almost always helpful and they are always with you, even if they end up being taken one by one.
I’ve become so attached that I even informally named them after the really good stupid dogs in Tim Burton’s movies: Persephone and Sparky’s Frankenweenieand Zero from Nightmare before Christmas. You can’t pet them or teach them tricks. Then again, they are ghosts. I guess interacting with them is impossible, but perhaps there’s an in-game item for that.
