Via Brian Webber: Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero says Errol Spence Jr would be scared to get “Cracked” of former WBA/WBC welterweight champion Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman when or if they play each other next year.
Rolly notes that Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs), despite being inactive for most of the past three years, can still crack and that Spence (28-0.22 KOs) doesn’t like being hit.
Rolly said Errol, 32, was injured against former 147 lb WBA champion Yordanis Ugas last April and he is not a puncher. Therefore, should a Spence-Thurman fight happen, Spence will stay outside and make sure he doesn’t get hit by Thurman, according to Rolly.
With Thurman out of action for the last five years of his career, Rolly isn’t sure if he’s sharp enough at this point to beat Spence. He thinks that if this were the Thurman of three years ago, Spence would give up.
Spence hasn’t said whether he will fight Thurman, but given that he has been quiet about it since the WBC ordered the match last Wednesday, it suggests they will fight. If the match does not happen, Spence will deny this view on social networks.
“It’s an easy fight to do and they don’t want to fight, then they don’t want to fight each other,” said Rolly Romero. Fighthype about the WBC matchup between IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Errol Spence Jr and Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman.
“Thurman took a lot of time. He fought [Mario] Barrios in the first week of February. Was it the first time he fought in two years?
That’s a lot of layoffs and all that. Honestly, I wish Keith Thurman was more active with his career. I liked him; he can crack. He’s a good fighter, you know? Spence is the more aggressive fighter. That’s where it will go.
“The money is with Spence. Spence is the one who will sell the war. Thurman has the mouthpiece, but the auctioneer right now is Spence of the two.
“Like I said, you [Thurman] inactive for almost three damn years. Not even just inactive, but completely inactive apart from social media and everything. He’s like a ghost.
“We’ll see. Thurman can crack, and I’ll be honest, Spence doesn’t like punchers, man. Every time Spence fights punchers, he’s like this. [fighting at a distance] full time.
“He’s just long and lanky; that’s what it is. Like I said, he has no killing instincts, and he won’t go in and try to kill Thurman because Thurman will break,” Rolly said of Spence. “Yes, but [Yordenis] Ugas is not a fighter,” Rolando said when informed that Errol had finished ahead of Yordenis Ugas last April after he had swollen eyes.
“Ugas is not a puncher, and Ugas injured him. When he [Spence] cracked, he went back and relaxed for a while. He doesn’t want to be cracked by Thurman.
“Like I said, I don’t know how good Thurman is anymore because Thurman was laid off a long time ago. Maybe it was Thurman from a few years ago, but he’s been off a lot.
“I have no opinion on that game, but good luck to Frank Martin,” Rolly said when asked about his views on the Michel Rivera vs Frank Martin match.
“It will be one of the more marketable matches in recent boxing history. At least for the past ten years,” Rolly said of his fight with Adrien Broner that didn’t come to fruition. I think it will be fun not only for me but I think for Broner as well.
It will be fun for the fans and everyone will watch it. I wish it had happened that way, but it didn’t happen that way. I’m not allowed to divulge such information,” Rolly said when asked if BLK Prime had come to see him.
“Whether they do or not, I am not authorized to disclose such information.
“Erro Spence,” Rolly said when asked who was number one on his hit list beyond the rematch with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. “Let’s do it,” Rolly said when asked if Spence’s manager called him for a fight in March. “Similarly, crack him. Just like how Ugas got him. Beat him,” Rolly said of how he would defeat Spence.
“He doesn’t want to be fractured. Know Spence, he will try to stay a mile away.
“I knew it was going to happen,” Rolly said when asked if he was surprised that the Spence vs. Terence Crawford does not take place or not. “One is afraid of the other, and the other is afraid of them.
“I will tell you like this. Spence got into some real dog fights. Crawford’s only win was Gamboa by 135. Crawford, the cheapest mom in boxing, the dumbest mom in boxing, and honestly, I’ll just leave it at that. Both cheap and dumb. Yeah, they’re both scared of each other,” Rolly said of Spence & Crawford.
