EU ministers agree on sanctions against Russia
Paris:
EU foreign ministers on Tuesday agreed new sanctions against Russia over its recognition of breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine and the deployment of troops there, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc. Yves Le Drian said.
“We also agreed on an initial package of sanctions,” Le Drian told reporters after a meeting in Paris of top diplomats, accusing Russia of “violating international law” and “violating its commitments”.
EU sanctions against Russia will also target members of Russia’s parliament who support the recognition of breakaway regions as independent and will take a heavy toll on the country, said the head of policy towards Russia. EU foreign affairs said on Tuesday.
“Sanctions will hurt Russia and will hurt a lot,” Josep Borrell told reporters.
