You then, Supercharger take the street fighter crown, at least in our book. Truth be told, this is very much down to personal opinion and I think any of the top six or seven games in our ranking could easily be number one for someone else. Maybe for you…and that’s great. From Super Street Fighter II Turbo As our top pick, I’ll try to convey why it’s dominating.
For starters, it became the ultimate evolution of Street Warrior II, the most important fighting game the genre is known for. Capcom made two more attempts to track Super Street Fighter II Turbo, but as you’ve probably already read, they have their own problems. This is the item that stuck and the one that people still like to this day.
Supercharger was the logical culmination of a journey Capcom began in 1991, incorporating everything their designers learned from World Warrior, Champion version, Super fightingand even overwhelming super into an ultimate, excellent game. It also brings innovations of its own, such as metered fuel-powered super-combinations, throw softening (“teching”), and even rudimentary juggling.
The characters, too, have gained important moves to complete their set of moves. Imagine Fei Long without chicken wings, Ryu without strong strides and overhead, Chun without lifting stones, Gief without green gloves, Honda without oicho. (You don’t have to, because super exists.) The character balance isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough to make for consistently fun matches, and it’s always fun when someone keeps winning with a low level like Cammy or T. Hawk.
(And let’s not forget series protagonist Akuma debuted here, becoming the first banned character in FGC history.)
All of the above, combined with the return of Super fightingLucky quick action, worked together to create short, intense matches that were largely free of gimmicks, focusing instead on the 2D combat basics of neutrals, footsies and zoning. Supercharger both fun, and an excellent teacher of the fundamentals of fighting games.
When I play Supercharger With a similarly skilled opponent today, it’s like we’re engaging in another form of communication, a hidden language that includes attacks and retreats, reads and lures. Sometimes words are not needed, because our hands are saying everything through the screen. I’ve always pursued that sense of mental “zone” in video games, and best of all, Super Street Fighter II Turbo took me there like few others.
While I have played and enjoyed most street fighter Game, Super Street Fighter II Turbo is a place I will always return to. I hold it in the same dignity as Death, Super Mario Bros. 3, CHEAP type, Dark souls…masterpieces are always relevant and there is always more to offer. — Alexandra Hall
