Nintendo showcased almost 25 minutes of indie games during its Indie World Showcase today, and if you can’t get a hold of it, or if you miss the name of the game you’d like to see, we’ve got you covered.
Sea of stars
Sea of Stars Announced in 2020 as Prequel to Sabotage Studio’s The Messengerand while we watched it last year, that’s where we also learned that Chrono Trigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda is helping to compose the music for the game, Today’s Indie World Showcase gave us another look at its beautiful world. We watched a new trailer that features some beautiful pixel art, turn-based combat, and we heard what Mitsuda was working on. But perhaps the most interesting part is that we have a release window: Holidays 2022.
Aliisha: Oblivion of Twin Goddesses
This co-op adventure features up to two players controlling either of Aliisha’s twin protagonists, Lisha or Aisha. As you explore a deserted temple together, you’ll rely on each sister’s expertise, which requires different control options. Lisha’s nimble movements use Joy-Con motion controls, while Aisha’s AMBU drone uses the Switch touchscreen. With an outstanding, painterly art style, UNDERSCORE’s parallel journey will surely delight viewers when it launches in the spring of 2022.
Loco Motive
Loco Motive comes from a new studio called Robust Games founded by two brother developers. It’s a point-and-click adventure game set on a 1930s express train called the Royce Express. Oh, and it’s a murder mystery (murder happens a lot on 20th Century trains, huh?). After a murder occurs on an express train, you will play as three characters – an outspoken lawyer, an amateur detective and an undercover agent – at different points in the story while trying to find clues and finally clear your name as all three are playable characters who also happen to be prime suspects. Loco Motive will launch on Switch in the summer of 2022.
EP after love
Part visual novel, part rhythm game, Pikselnesia’s heartfelt story revolves around a musician named Rama who is mourning the passing of his girlfriend. Taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia, Afterlove will see Rama picking up the pieces after this huge loss and learning how to rebuild relationships, maybe even find love again. With a distinct manga inspiration, featuring a soundtrack composed by Indonesian band L’alphalpha, the style of this game is unique from anything in the Indie World presentation. It’s also sure to leave us emotionally down, but it can also give us hope when the Afterlove EP releases this coming summer.
Dungeon Munchies
Dungeon Munchies is one of the more exciting revelations of today’s rollout as it’s available to buy and play today. The announcement trailer showcases beautiful pixel art, if a bit grotesque, lots of deaths, lots of monsters, and a talking pot. And speaking of a cooking pot, you will be tasked with helping necromantic chef Simmer cook new recipes by slaying monsters and bringing them to her. New recipes can give you a new ability or a special bonus, and among all the recipes in the game, of which there are over 100, you are bound to find one. New favorite meal.
Figure 2: Creed Valley
The sequel to 2019’s Figment, Figment 2: Creed Valley is a puzzling adventure mixed with music. You will adventure through a world set in the human mind with sword in hand, overcoming obstacles and puzzles from an isobaric perspective. You and another player can team up to tackle the list of melodious disease and environment brain teasers that developer Bedtime Digital Games has prepared. The demo will hit the eShop later today, with the full release coming in February.
Let’s Play: Oink Game
Let’s Play: Oink Games is Oink Games’ spin on some of the classic board games. Launching later today with four board games, players can play alone or with friends through local or online multiplayer. One board game will require players to dive into the deep sea, while another Monopoly-esque game is all about investing and increasing your stock price. The third board game is about drawing and trying to fit in with your art, and the fourth and final board game in Let’s Play: Oink Games, currently, is about surviving on the moon. . You can play all four today, and Oink Games says it will be updated to include even more board games.
Ending: Extinction is Forever
On a list of games I couldn’t play on my own, Endling puts you in the ephemeral position of the ultimate fox mother. You will lead your three adorable cubs through a dangerous world ravaged by humans, where not only your life is in danger, but the lives of your little ones as well. Your choices and actions will ultimately determine how many cubs get to safety in the end. If you have it ready to go bravely on this potentially heartbreaking adventure, by all means give this soul crusher a try when it launches this spring.
OlliOlli’s World
Announced earlier this year, OlliOlli World is the ambitious sequel to Role7’s Olli skater series. Dropping the more linear layout of previous Olli games, OlliOlli World hopes to offer a more innovative and radial skateboarding experience. It will do so with the rhythm, background, and puzzle elements of previous OlliOlli games. We got a new look today and know we’ll be playing the game on February 8, 2022. Alternatively, you can pre-order it starting today and doing so will bring it to you. some exclusive in-game items to use when the game launches next year.
River City Girls 2
Following on from the success of 2019’s River City Girls, this aptly named sequel brings the heroines of WayForward back, with a few more faces added to this urban battle’s roster. Misako and Kyoko (and a few others) return to punch and kick the streets of River City in single-player, local or online co-op. The presentation promises higher stakes and winding roads that will make up the music of returning composer Megan McDuffee. Bruise some bad guys when River City Girls 2 hits the streets in the summer of 2022.
Omori
It wouldn’t be a Nintendo showcase without one more, would it? Technically, this was announced in the Indie World Showcase following the games listed below, but considering this is one of the main highlights of the show, we thought we’d give it a go. it is here. Originally released elsewhere in 2020, Omori is a beautiful, heartbreaking, and somewhat terrifying game that requires players to travel back and forth between two strange and vibrant worlds. You’ll unravel the unique story while defeating enemies in a turn-based combat system. As noted by Nintendo, Omori tackles some heavyweight topics, including anxiety and depression, so be cautious with that before getting in on it. You can play Omori on Switch in the spring of 2022.
At the end of the rollout, Nintendo released a bunch of information about some of the other indies we can expect to see soon in 2022. They’re listed below:
- Parkasaurus: Cute and colorful Jurassic Park-like dinosaur park simulation in spring 2022.
- Don’t starve together: The standalone multiplayer expansion for Don’t Starve launches for Switch in spring 2022.
- Chicory: A colorful story: One of the bigger surprises of today’s Indie World Showcase, Chicory, the colorful and moving Zelda-like adventure game, is out today!
- Baby storm: You play as a kindergarten teacher trying to manage a classroom full of babies and it’s as chaotic as it sounds. If you need some chaos in your life, check out Baby Storm when it arrives on Switch on January 21, 2022.
- Grime: An epic action RPG with a stunning 3D aesthetic coming Summer of 2022.
- Gerda: A Flame In Winter: An isometric survival narrative game coming in 2022.
- Timelie: A stealth puzzle adventure game with an outstanding art style, where you control the timing to get into Switch today and you can even watch a demo, now live, to Know what to expect during the entire game.
- Behind the frame: The most beautiful scenery: A good and scenic game about an artist trying to finish his masterpiece, and it arrived on Switch in the spring of 2022.
