When we think of ‘Purani Dilli’, we can’t help but think of the delicious food this magnificent place has to offer! From juicy tikkas, flavorful biryanis, sweet and aromatic chaat to masaledaar gravy, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that North Indian food can be best presented with Old Delhi food! A pioneer of this scrumptious food has traveled the city on his own and spread his love for Old Delhi food by organizing exclusive food festivals and his name is Top. Osama Jalali kitchen. Recently, I had the pleasure of eating his food again at Crowne Plaza Greater Noida, and the food is absolutely breathtaking!

Chef Osama Jalali’s festival “The Summer Cuisine Of Delhi” focuses on playing with light and summer flavors to create a nutritious and delicious menu. I tried some of the most unique dishes during my visit, and each delighted me more than the others. The menu focuses on incorporating summer fruit into tikkas, kebabs and curries.

Paneer Gulnaar Kebab

We started with Paneer Gulnaar Kebab, Silbattaa Shammi Kebab and Sandall Murgh Tikka. The kebabs are stuffed with fresh pomegranates, giving a sweet flavor to the juicy bread. The rich tikka is marinated in sandalwood and a variety of masalas, making every bite soft and full of flavor and the classic Shammi Kebab that melts in your mouth!

Torai Ke Chilke, Chana Ki Dal Ka Bharta and Bhindi Gosht

For the main course, the chef made us try a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. In the vegetarian menu, we have Torai Ke Chilke, a fine sabzi made solely from the skin of torai, and Chana Ki Dal Ka Bharta. In the non-vegetarian we have Amba Kallya, a lamb curry laced with mango, Bhindi Gosht, an Awadhi preparation of spicy okra and lamb and the quintessential Old Delhi Murgh Kofte.

To complete the meal, the curry is accompanied by Mutton Yakhni Pulao, Warqi paratha and Khamiri roti. The curries are absolutely delicious, and it would be extremely difficult to choose a favorite, but I must say that Amba Kallya has found a special place in my heart.
