The Metroid the series took a brief nap in the N64 era, with Nintendo unable/unwilling to release a single home console game amid the success of the SNES’ Super Metroid in 1994 and GameCube’s Metroid Prime in 2002. So one fan is stepping in — and going back in time — to make one for themselves.
What you’re seeing here is the work of Luto Akino, who daily works as an indie programmer and developer, but who in his spare time has begun to put together his vision of what what an N64 Metroid what the game could/should have looked like.

Who knows what will happen, maybe one day he will end the game and have the whole thing ruined by Nintendo’s lawyers. But even if this is all we’ve ever had our eyes on, it’s still awesome to see it, because once you see giant Samus rolling around and shooting those N64-style things, you can almost convince yourself that this is really a game that you played in 1997 and has just somehow been forgotten all this time, or something that was shown at a Japanese-only game show in 1996, was canceled and the only surviving record of it is some blurry VHS scenes.
