Despite six races being moved from field to field, resulting in 10 program scratches, a total of $2.3 million was placed on the track and a pari-mutuel grip total of 19.4 million dollars, making it the third-best opening day number ever.
“We really want to thank the fans who supported us and the riders for changing and participating,” said Santa Anita Senior Vice President and General Manager, Nate Newby. “Although it didn’t rain yesterday, we had over four and a half inches of rain in the five days leading up to Sunday, so the decision was made to leave the field.
“I want to acknowledge the great work Dennis Moore and his team did yesterday to get the main track in excellent condition. We had a great race and some great performances, just a great day,” added Newby.
