FIFA warns Tunisia it faces possible ouster from World Cup 2022 | Football News
FIFA has issued a warning to Tunisia about the government’s involvement in the country’s football federation.
World football governing body FIFA has warned the Tunisian Football Federation (TFF) that their team’s participation in the 2022 World Cup could be threatened if government interference is found in the organization. .
After qualifying for their sixth World Cup, the North African nation is in Group D alongside defending world champions France, Australia and Denmark, whom they face in their opening match of the day. November 22
The Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) sent a letter to the TFF earlier this week raising concerns after Tunisia’s Youth and Sports Minister Kamel Deguiche threatened to dissolve several federal offices , among recent comments that have upset the global regulator.
According to FIFA regulations, the federations of all member countries must be free of any third party or government involvement.
Kenya and Zimbabwe are currently banned for this violation. India was briefly suspended for the same reason in August of this year.
FIFA confirmed the letter to Reuters but declined to comment further. There was no immediate comment from TFF.
The letter from Kenny Jean-Marie, Director of FIFA’s member associations, to TFF Secretary General Wajdi Aouadi reminds the association of its obligation to act independently and avoid undue influence of third parties.
“Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in the imposition of penalties under FIFA law, including the suspension of the association concerned,” it said.
The team never made it past the group stage. In Russia 2018, they registered only their second World Cup win and their first since 1978 after beating Panama 2-1.
