Final Fantasy 16: A Closer Look at Hunting Battles – IGN First
While Final Fantasy XVI is largely linear in structure, there are also four large areas that the player is free to explore. In these areas lurks tough enemies, known as Notorious Marks. Since they are secondary content, joining the battle against them is completely optional. However, the player who destroys them can receive valuable rewards.
Each of these enemies has a rank, indicating its strength. Of course, the higher the rank, the better the rewards. The infamous Mark can be found by naturally exploring the game’s open areas, but you can also find out their location through the Hunt Board, which protagonist Clive can access within the area. refuge area.
In our exclusive video you can see two different Notorious Mark fights. Grimalkin is a C-rank 32nd monster somewhat reminiscent of a hyena or leopard. Before fighting it, you’ll have to deal with a swarm of Wild Nakks that seem to be acting as its minions. Grimalkin attacks you with its ferocious claws, but while its attacks are powerful, its movements are not easy to read. As long as you can dodge and counterattack at the right time, Grimalkin shouldn’t be too hard to defeat.

The same cannot be said for Atlas, the second infamous Mark in our video. Atlas is an S-level 45 enemy that looks like the Iron Giant, one of Final Fantasy’s most iconic enemies. It uses a long-ranged sword and fires projectiles aimed at the player from above. A ranged attack in which Atlas swings his sword sideways while firing a particularly powerful and hard-to-dodge beam. In the video, the player is using the Titanic Block’s Eikonic Ability in melee combat, but will they be able to defeat it?
Final Fantasy XVI releases for PlayStation 5 on June 22. Be sure to check out our exclusive boss battle gameplay of Liquid Flame (see above), a video commentary on the game’s Eikonic Abilities directly from the developers and gameplay from two of the game’s dungeons.
