Final Fantasy 16’s battle director is excited to see the surprises players achieve in battle
Combat in Final Fantasy XVI is fast, chaotic, and most importantly, hilarious. There are a lot of combinations to make, and in just a little bit of action during my cover story trip to Square Enix’s office in Tokyo, Japan, I saw a lot of difference in the set up. Clive’s fighting prowess that I can’t wait to see what others do in the game.
I’ve also watched battle director Ryota Suzuki play through some of the toughest encounters in the game, and it’s no surprise he’s been brilliant, able to hit a hit or two in the 20 minutes he’s played. . He used combos that I didn’t really understand – admittedly he played a lot more in the later part of the game than I actually approached – and that got me thinking: he has Excited to see what players do with FFXVI’s combat, like I’m sitting there watching him unleash complex combos against countless enemies?
Final Fantasy XVI combat director Ryota Suzuki
Suzuki told me: “I have always tried to give players a lot of freedom in control and action in the game, and at the same time give them a lot of options so they can make and then work on it. own work. “So I expect that there will be a lot of weird things that they will do with certain abilities. I can’t say what those possibilities are, but I’ve got a few ideas because I’ve left many things open that way.
“I’m really excited to see what players do with them because there are definitely things that I don’t expect, but I love putting those things out there so they have something to play with and surprise me. When they do what I expect, I’m happy, but I’m also really happy when they […] do something completely unexpected. That’s one of the fun things about being a developer.”
Like Suzuki, I’m looking forward to seeing what more advanced players do with FFXVI’s combat, and thankfully we’re less than a month away.
