First Gran Turismo movie trailer shows racing action, David Harbor and Orlando Bloom
Sony has revealed its first footage Gran Turismo movie during a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The short “sneak peek” video highlights the action on the track of the motorsport movie based on the PlayStation series of racing games, but doesn’t do much to sell the story.
The video shows the length of the filmmakers, headed by director Neill Blomkamp (District 9), tried to recreate the look and feel of the game with real-life racing cars. Wheeled drone footage recalls the GT’s trailers and replay modes, while the gameplay experience is echoed in the cockpit cameras and remarkably accurate reproductions of the vehicle. The chase camera has a high angle of the game.
The film’s cast also appear in the video, speaking directly to the audience to enhance the immersive quality that the racing scenes will feature in the cinema. “This movie was made for the cinema,” excited Orlando Bloom, promising “body-shaking sound… Audiences will feel every shock, every thrill of the 200-mile race. this one hour.”
David Harbor added: “It’s a crazy racing action that feels like you’re in the middle of a race.
According to Archie Madekwe, who plays Jann Mardenborough in the film, there will also seem to be “drama” and “a love story”. Gran Turismo Based on the story of the real Mardenborough, who played Gran Turismo at home as a teenager to become a racer thanks to GT Academy training and competition.
But we don’t get much of that story from this trailer. At a conjecture, Harbor’s character could be inspired by Darren Cox, the Nissan executive who made a deal with PlayStation to launch GT Academy, while Bloom looks like a follow-up team boss. potential Christian Horner style. Not appearing in the trailer, but confirmed to be joining the cast, is Darren Barnet (Paxton in I have never), Djimoun Hounsou, and in a strange twist, Horner’s wife, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell Horner.
Hopefully we’ll learn more from a proper trailer soon. Gran Turismo will hit theaters on August 11, 2023.
