All-new Tacoma comes with more power, amazing technology, new trim levels
We have officially declared 2023 the year of the midsize pickup. So far, the GMC Canyon 2023 and Chevy Colorado have debuted. Then the 2024 Ford Ranger was revealed. Now, we have the Toyota Tacoma 2024 hitting a pivotal moment. And, the new Tacoma might be the best of the bunch, with a handful of segment-specific features, great technology, multiple configuration options and powertrain choices, and, at the same time, a page level. position on land is certain. However, the biggest news for 2024 could be the number of powertrain options available for the Tacoma.

Returning are both two-door “XtraCab” and four-door “Double Cab” configurations. The double cab can be equipped with a 5- or 6-foot bed, while the XtraCab only comes with a rear bed. As for powertrain options, you may want to note:
For 2024, there are two engine options and two gearbox options. This is where we start getting into some of the more exclusive options. The Tacoma 2024 will be the only midsize truck to offer a hybrid powertrain or a six-speed manual transmission.
The base engine is a turbocharged, 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder. In base SR models equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 2.4 engine delivers 228 hp and 243 lb-ft or so of torque. Fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, these numbers are 270 and 310 respectively. In other trim levels, the 2.4-liter engine is mated to an automatic transmission only and delivers 278 hp. and 317 pound-feet of torque. Available in higher trim levels is Toyota’s i-Force Max hybrid engine. The turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 delivers 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.
Making up for lost time, the Tacoma 2024 is packed with tech features. Essentially, all the equipment we’ve seen on redesigned Toyota vehicles—especially the Crown and Tundra—is available on Tacoma.
At the base end of the spectrum, you’ll find a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, LED headlights, push-button start and the new infotainment system of Toyota. More premium features include a 12.3-inch gauge cluster, a 14-inch infotainment screen, a windscreen display, and a higher-end JBL sound system with removable portable Bluetooth speakers. removable, heated and cooled seats, dual automatic climate control, and a heated steering wheel.

Tacoma 2024 will be available in eight (with 8) trim levels, of which the new Trailhunter is arguably the most exciting. The new top-of-the-line Tacoma is for the amphibious crowd and factory-equipped with accessories designed to allow this midsize truck to go the distance.
Toyota worked with Australia-based ARB, a major distributor of off-road accessories, to co-develop Trailhunter. So you’ll see standard features like 2.5-inch Old Man Emu brand-sensitive position-sensitive unit shock absorbers, steel rear bumper, sturdy rebound point, bed utility bar with Molle storage plate removable sideboards, 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires, frame-mounted stone rails and overhead air intakes.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but the basic trim breakout looks like this:
- SR: Available in XtraCab and DoubleCab configurations and includes a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, twin-tube shock absorbers, leaf spring rear suspension, 17-inch wheels, 7-inch gauge cluster, infotainment display 8 inch position, LED lights. A manual transmission is also available on this trim.
- SR5: Available in XtraCab and DoubleCab configurations and including a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. It includes a multi-link rear suspension on Double Cab models and 17-inch alloy wheels.
- TRD PreRuner: Available only as an XtraCab and includes a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. Available only with 2WD, the PreRunner comes with an electrically-activated locking rear differential and 17-inch alloy wheels with off-road tyres.
- Sports TRD: Available only in the Double Cab guise and comes standard with a 2.4-liter turbocharger, but the i-Force Max hybrid V6 is also available. A manual transmission is also available on this version, but only in four units. It adds red TRD sport twin-tube shock absorbers, 18-inch black TRD Sport wheels, hood, black exterior badging, door handles and fenders with colored keys, aluminum pedals and assemblies 12.3 inch gauge. Portable speakers and premium JBL sound are available.
- Terrain TRD: Available only as a Double Cab and comes standard with a 2.4-liter turbocharger, but the i-Force Max hybrid is also available. A manual transmission is also available on this trim. It adds Bilstein monotube remote reserve spring shock absorbers, MultiTerrain Select powertrain, electronically-activated rear locking differential, available front stabilizer bar disconnect, composite skidplates, 33-inch tires with available and 17- or 18-inch black TRD alloy wheels.
- Limit: Available only as a Double Cab and with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine as standard, but an i-Force Max hybrid is also available. Full-time 4WD is also available with the i-Force Max powertrain. It adds Adaptive Variable Suspension, chrome accents, colored keyed fenders and rear bumper, 18-inch chrome wheels, electrically adjustable dashboard and tailgate, a 14-inch infotainment screen. inches, head-up display and heated and cooled seats.
- Professional TRD: Available only as a Double Cab and with the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain only. It adds 2.5-inch Fox internal shock absorbers, red TRD forged aluminum upper control arms, standard IsoDynamic performance seats, aluminum front skid plates, 18-inch TRD Pro alloy wheels, rocker guard, two-tone roof, stiffened LED fog lights, ARB steel rear bumper with red recovery hook, auxiliary DC switch and 2400W AC inverter with 110 volt outlet.
- Hunter: Available only as a Double Cab and with the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain only. It adds a 2.5-inch Old Man Emu forged spring sensitive unit ARB shock absorber with rear piggyback-style remote control tank, Trailhunter bronze forged aluminum upper control arm, stamped steel slide plate heater, 18-inch copper Trailhunter alloy wheels, Hard-brand white/yellow LED Switchable Fog Lights, Trailhunter high-mounted air intakes, rock-frame mount rails, Trailhunter bed utility bar and high capacity bed integrated air compressor.
The Tacoma 2024 will be assembled at both Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Baja California as well as Guantajuato, Mexico. Gasoline models will go on sale in late 2023, and i-Force Max hybrid models will be available in spring 2024.
