Floyd Mayweather Jr fights during an exhibition on May 14 in Dubai
Via Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr will be fighting an eight-round exhibition fight in Dubai with a fighter named Don Moore next month.
45-year-old Mayweather Jr (50-0, 27 KOs) will face Moore (18-0-1, 12 KOs) on a helipad in Dubai.
It’s unclear why Mayweather chose the lesser-known Moore as his opponent over a famous, retired boxer that would garner interest.
With the fight taking place in Dubai, Mayweather probably felt it wouldn’t matter to fight a good opponent. It’s a little surprising that Floyd would choose to fight with a complete unknown.
There are plenty of former boxers around Mayweather’s age who might be willing to fight him. Again, there is a risk that Mayweather takes on a former elite boxer. As such, he’s battling a little-known boxer with a record filled with ham & egger-type opponents.
Mayweather’s rival, Don Moore, is said to be in his 40s and he hasn’t been in a fight since 2016. His career spanned from 1999 to 2016, but unfortunately, he never has. Fight with any world class opponent. Essentially, he fought back against obscure opposition with poor track record.
Don Moore’s Last Six Rivals:
- DeShaun Williams (5-16-1)
- Reymundo Hernandez (6-14)
- Alfredo Guarneros (5-9)
- Randy Dodds (6-22)
- Reggie Sanders (January 12-44)
- Bobby Connors (0-6)
In the lower division, MMA fighter Anderson Silva will fight Bruno Machado. Also on the bottom card is former world two-division champion Badou Jack battling an opponent who still has to be determined.
Badou, 38, has been fighting weaker lately since suffering consecutive losses to Marcus Browne and Jean Pascal in 2019.
This will be Mayweather’s first bout since his exhibition bout with YouTuber Logan Paul this past June 6 in a fight with no declared winner.
It was a forgettable fight that included a lot of holdings and loud boos due to lack of action. It’s not clear what fans expect from Mayweather and Paul. Mayweather is old now and doesn’t want to fight an opponent who has a chance of beating him.
Some boxing fans criticize Mayweather for continuing to fight at his age, but he loves the sport.
Mayweather is the equivalent of an old golfer who can’t give up the sport even though his skills have dwindled. It’s great that Mayweather can still make millions from boxing for his events.
He hasn’t committed a similar murder in the past five years since the big payday he received for his 2017 boxing match against UFC star Conor McGregor.
At Mayweather’s age, he’s probably too old to fight one of the UFC superstars because they’ll probably beat him in a boxing match. Mayweather put up a fight against Paul and looked older than he was.
