Ford F-150 Lightning, Toyota LandCruiser meet in fierce racing challenge
That's the question on everyone's mind: will one Ford F-150 Lightning tow another Ford F-150 Lightning faster than one Toyota land cruiser?
Okay, maybe people don't think of it, but Australian electric vehicle (EV) importer AUSEV has made exotic drag racing a reality.
The race took place at Brisbane's Lakeside Raceway, with the eight-mile (201m) course set up for electric pick-ups and LandCruiser 300 Series utes converted to do battle.
While the LandCruiser jumped off the line, the F-150 Lightning quickly passed, despite being towing another of the same type behind.
By comparison, the Toyota LandCruiser produces 227kW of power and 700Nm of torque from its 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine, while the signature F-150 Lightning's dual electric motors deliver a total system output of 433kW and 1050Nm.
It's worth noting that although the F-150 Lightning is only a few hundred kilograms heavier than the standard LandCruiser, it drags along with its weight.
Ford has yet to officially announce plans to sell the F-150 Lightning in Australia alongside the petrol model, although AUSEV has revealed that a right-hand drive converted version of the electric pick-up will be available to order. in stock at the end of this month.
