Ford produced the 150,000th unit Mustang Mach-E Electric SUV after almost two years – as the battery-powered crossover arrives in more markets.
The Blue Oval brand says it plans to increase its total EV production to 600,000 per year by the end of 2023 and over two million by 2026.
150,000 dong Mustang Mach-E manufactured at Blue Oval’s Cuautitlán stamping and assembly plant in Mexico, recently received several upgrades to support more production.
“The plant is doing very well,” said Ford production manager Deborah Manzano.
“With a new battery line, a new chassis line, an additional assembly line, we are literally making the most of the space to build more Mustang Mach-Es. Most recently we also added a new paint shop. Nothing can stand still for long!”
Ford also produces the Mustang Mach-E in China as part of a joint venture with Changan Ford for the Chinese market.
The Mustang Mach-E will be available in a total of 37 countries by 2023, including newly confirmed markets such as New Zealand, Brazil and Argentina.
Missing from this list is Australia, which has not been officially confirmed by Ford to receive the Mustang Mach-E. But like recent report, auto expert understands that the Mustang Mach-E will be one of five previously announced electrified Fords in 2024.
It is likely to follow Escape plug-in hybrid (PHEV) launched this year and electric vehicles Electronic transit and Custom electronic transit trucks, launching in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
It should come as no surprise that the Mustang Mach-E is finally coming, as right-hand drive deliveries began in the UK and Ireland last year.
Ford Australia has previously said the electric SUV’s chances of a local launch have been reduced not by a lack of demand, but by lack of supply.
It’s unclear which variants will make the trip to Australia, but in the UK it’s offered as RWD, AWD and GT.
RWD and AWD models are offered with a choice of 75.7kWh (Standard Range) and 98.7kWh (Extended Range) batteries, with the GT offering only the larger of the two.

From a standstill, RWD accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9-7.0 seconds, AWD in 5.8-6.3 seconds and GT in 4.4 seconds.
The maximum DC charging capacity is 115kW on models with smaller batteries and 150kW on models with larger batteries.
Inside, there’s a giant 15.5-inch vertically oriented central touchscreen, as well as the standard 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
Standard equipment on all UK models includes LED headlights, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a surround-view camera, a hands-free power tailgate and a 10-speaker B&O sound system. with AWD and GT models upgrade to adaptive LED headlights.
The introduction of the Mustang Mach-E will give Ford a rival not only Tesla Model Ybut also Hyundai ioniq 5 and KIA EV6 and coming soon Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4x.
