Foreign currency worth 3.7 Crores hidden in trolley bag seized at Mumbai airport
Rs 3.7 crore worth of foreign currency was seized from two passengers at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport this morning. The coin was found inside a recess in their trolley pocket. It was concealed to make it difficult to detect baggage during normal baggage scanning, the official said.
They were arrested after being stopped by the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
The men were about to leave for Sharjah, without any papers to possess or a license to export the confiscated items. Foreign currency in the form of US dollars and Saudi Dirhams was seized from their possession.
The coin was seized by DRI officials under Operation Check Shirt, using data analytics.
Foreign currency was recovered from these passengers under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is underway.
