Formula E says Gen3 racing car will be the most efficient in the world
The all-electric Formula E line provided the first glimpse on Monday of what it says will be the world’s most efficient race car.
The third-generation (Gen3) car, which will be racing from its ninth season in 2023, was presented to manufacturers, teams, drivers and sponsors at an event in Valencia.
The teams are testing in Spain ahead of the eighth season starting in January.
“The Gen3 is our fastest, lightest, most powerful and most efficient race car,” Formula E chief executive Jamie Reigle said in a statement.
“Together with (the governing body) the FIA, we have built the world’s most efficient and sustainable high-performance racing car.”
Formula E says at least 40% of the energy used in a race will come from regenerative braking. The Gen3 vehicle will have front and rear powertrains, doubling the current regenerative capacity.
An electric motor will deliver up to 350kw (470BHP) and power the car, lighter and smaller than the current type racing on city streets, with a top speed of 320 km/h. H.
The car will also be carbon-free and run without rear hydraulic brakes.
Formula E says it plans to recycle broken carbon fiber parts while the tires will contain 26% sustainable materials.
