Forspoken developers explain Parkour’s magical abilities
Square Enix explained eight different magical parkour abilities in Forspoken allows the player to accelerate, scale, and fly across the world of Athia.
Details in one PlayStation Blog post, the various skills won’t be unlocked in the first place, but protagonist Frey will probably accumulate them pretty quickly as developer Luminous Productions seems to be putting a lot of emphasis on transmission.
Flow is parkour’s most basic skill and seems to be the first skill Frey will learn. It allows the player to sprint across the map at great speed, jumping over any object that gets in the way like rocks or small walls.
It does require stamina, however, but the Rush skill works as an alternative here as it allows Frey to maintain top speed without draining mana. Orange flames will occasionally appear around the character, and pressing Circle at this time causes Frey to rush forward faster without using stamina.
This chaining of possibilities is a key mechanism in Forspokenand when mastered can be used to zip around the map regardless of terrain. Players can also do a low jump with Shimmy, double jump with Scale, and climb cliffs with Soar, for example.
When jumping from the top of those cliffs, the Float skill puts Frey in a water bubble that acts like a glider, and she also has a basic grappling ability, called Zip, that can be used used for movement or as an evasive mechanism in combat.
