Fox News Stars Mark Levin, Brit Hume, and Marc Thiessen Squabble Over How Much Trump’s to Blame for Midterms
Three Fox News stars on Sunday openly argued over whether former President Donald Trump or Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell would blame the Republican Party. midterm elections failed—preview of holdings in the GOP and cable news outlets that often act as in fact media arm.
While many Republicans have blamed Trump and far-right candidates for rejecting his election because of his poor midterm performance, the former president and his allies brought to blame McConnell and the leadership of the party for failing to create the so-called “red wave” electoral sweep.
Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen on Sunday morning tore up the point that McConnell was responsible, tweets: “The amount McConnell spent bailing out the Trump candidates: $241 million. How much Trump spent supporting his candidates: $14.7 million… But, yeah, get rid of McConnell.”
“Exactly,” Written Fox News colleague Brit Hume, a veteran conservative political analyst.
The Fox News pair’s agreement on the matter seems to upset their colleagues Mark Levinhost of a bombastic online weekend show.
“No, turn it off,” right-wing radio presenter retorted in a tweet. He criticized McConnell for spending millions on GOP candidate Joe O’Dea’s failed challenge for Democratic Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado while spending nothing on Arizona Senate race tight in which Senator Mark Kelly ultimately defeated MAGA challenger Blake Masters.
Levin also complained about McConnell spending “millions of dollars” to “wipe out” Kelly Trshibaka, the staunch Trump supporter challenging moderate Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, a villain in the MAGA . circle. The race for the Alaska Senate will now go to a ranked selection race as neither Republicans get 50% of the vote.
Levin wrote to Hume and Thiessen: “You seem to think that if McConnell could have selected more established candidates, these Democratic incumbents would have been defeated. “I have no proof for that. The GOP establishment hates the establishment. Even before Trump, it hated the Tea Party. Tell your truth straight.
hume answered by asking Levin, “[H]How much did Trump spend supporting the candidates he endorsed? Actually nothing. McConnell meanwhile has spent tens of millions supporting Trump-backed candidates, some of whom have criticized McConnell.” The Fox star cited J.D. Vance, Senator-elect of Ohio’s MAGA as an example.
“But you didn’t answer my examples,” Levin return fire before moving on to a list of grievances with McConnell that “go beyond this election,” including having “no agenda.” Finally, he acknowledged the disparity in spending, writing: “In terms of Trump’s spending, that’s true, but he has appeared multiple times to multiple candidates. McConnell did nothing because he was very unpopular with his own party. Can’t we agree on something so obvious? It’s time for someone else.”
After Thiessen answered by quoting exact figures about how much McConnell has spent on key races, Levin retorted, “You guys annoy me,” before again protesting McConnell’s efforts to support multiple Republican candidates “have prestige” than in some important races.
The conservative host continued to take issue with his Fox colleagues repeatedly describing several failed candidates as “the ‘Trump’ candidate,” note, “That’s who voters want to run for in general. So you are attacking the voters.”
Levin then offered his colleagues the last word, because “I’m going to watch the UFC” – but then he continued parcel half–one–dozen than posts aimed at Hume and Thiessen.
