Via Charles Brun: Tyson Fury promoter Frank Warren said a draft contract was sent to Team Oleksandr Usyk for the unified heavyweight championship in March.
With only about eight weeks to go before the match scheduled for March 4, it’s hard to believe it will be then unless IBF, WBA & WBC champion Usyk (20-0, 13) KO) conducted his training camp well.
Fury (33-0-1, 24 KO) can go further ruin everything by setting one of his ridiculous weekend deadlines as we saw him do when he ruined negotiations for a big fight with Anthony Joshua last December. Men just don’t want it.
That move by Fury is a clear example of a boxer who simply doesn’t enjoy fighting. The only question this writer has is how long before Fury’s team announce Derek Chisora 4 to cram it down the throats of the British public for another Tottenham Hotspurs or Stadium mismatch. Wembley Stadium.
Call it a neurological case or whatever, but Fury negotiated to get out of the fight with Joshua, and now it will be interesting to see if he does the same in another risky fight against Usyk.
“We sent them a draft contract; that’s where we’re at,” Frank Warren said to talkSPORT Fight Night about him sending a draft of the contract to Oleksandr Usyk to win the undisputed heavyweight championship against Tyson Fury in March.
“Now it has to be solved very, very quickly because time is against us,” Warren said.
If Team Fury wants to fight Usyk in March, that contract will have to be agreed upon almost immediately and sent back within days. There was not enough time to properly prepare and push for the fight to take place in March. I hate to say it, but this seems like a hasty joband if I were Usyk, I would immediately veto the idea of an operation.
Charles Brun believed that for the fight to work properly, it had to be in June or July as that would at least give it the time it needed for promotion and training.
“Wherever there is the most money,” Warren said of the site of the Fury vs Usyk contest. “There is nothing in place from anywhere outside the UK.
Well, it makes sense that the Usyk vs. Fury takes place in Saudi Arabia if that’s where the most loot is. Why host the war in the UK if it can’t match the huge amount of cash that Saudi Arabia has to offer?
“We just want to finish it by Marchand that will set the stage for another big battle in the fall,” Warren said.
