From Ed Sheeran’s copyright victory to the Grammys viewer stats: It’s MBW’s Weekly Round-Up

One of the biggest stories on our pages this week comes from the UK, where superstar artist Ed Sheeran won a copyright lawsuit over alleged infringement of his hit, Your shape.
An English artist called Sami Chokri (aka Sami Switch) claims that Sheeran copied his own song Why so Write your shape, which Sheeran wrote with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and producer Steve Mac.
Judge Antony Zacaroli concluded that Sheeran and his collaborators “not knowingly or unconsciously copied” Chokri’s song.
In one Instagram The post was published following the ruling, with Sheeran saying the “baseless” copyright claims were “damaging to the songwriting industry”.
In other places, According to Nielsen data, only 2.24% of 18-49 year old television viewers in the United States watched the 2022 Grammys on Sunday.
That percentage is really a bit down over 2.28% of this demographic watched the Grammy show the previous year.
(To elaborate: Nielsen placed a 2.24 “rating” on the 2022 Grammys for audiences 18-49 years old; this “rating” indicates the percentage of all US television-watching adults in the age bracket. This was watching the show.)
In other words, almost 98% Teenagers 18-49 years old in the United States simply don’t watch the Grammys on Sundays.
Also this week, Bloomberg reported that Concord has been looking for a “more unusual” acquisition offer in the region of $6 billion.
To date, Concord has rejected $4.5 billion and $5 billion acquisition bids, respectively, sources said.
More, BMG entered into a global publishing agreement with George Harrison Estate to manage the Harrisongs catalog, while Ingrooves won a patent for new music marketing technology.

1) ED SHEERAN WIN COPYRIGHT IN UK
Ed Sheeran has filed a lawsuit in the UK for alleged infringement on his single Shape of You.
A British artist named Sami Chokri (aka Sami Switch) sued Sheeran, who claimed that Sheeeran plagiarized his 2015 song Oh Why.
The ruling was made in Sheeran’s favor at the UK Supreme Court on Wednesday (April 6)…
2) AGAIN, NEARLY 98% of 18- to 49-year-olds in the US DON’T SEE THE GIRL ON SUNDAY
The televised portion of the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, which took place in Vegas on Sunday (April 3), was watched by 9.59 million viewers in the US on the big night.
That’s according to the latest figures from Nielsen, which includes everyone who watched the show live on TV via CBS and/or streaming platforms like Paramount+, in addition to viewers outside of their homes.
(Earlier figures from Nielsen, which omitted out-of-home viewers, showed the show had an audience of 8.93 million.)
Nielsen’s 9.59 million figure is up 3.9% from the previous year’s audience (9.23 million), according to the Hollywood Reporter.
But the most damning stat for the Grammys is, again, its appeal to younger viewers…
3) CONCORD CLOSED 5 BILLION USD BUYING OFFER, THE BEST SOURCE of BLOOMBERG
Concord has long been rumored to be exploring the possibility of a sale at a $4 billion valuation.
That’s true, according to Bloomberg, but the company is looking for an “unusual plus” offer in the region of $6 billion.
Indeed, sources speaking to Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw suggest that, to date, Concord has rejected $4.5 billion and $5 billion in acquisition bids respectively.
Concord is largely owned by the pension fund, the Michigan Retirement System…
4) BMG HAS REPRESENTED GEORGE HARRISON VIA GLOBAL DEAL PUBLICATION LIST
BMG has signed a global publishing agreement with George Harrison Estate to manage the Harrisongs portfolio.
The catalog includes more than 200 songs written by George Harrison with The Beatles, Traveling Wilburys and for the artist’s solo career. The catalog was previously managed by Concord.
The BMG deal expands the company’s relationship with Harrison’s Dark Horse Records music company, with BMG acting as a global partner in recorded music, music publishing and merchandise, and broadcasting. Expand your business…
