Montreal scored the only goal in the 83rd minute after Vancouver defender Tristan Blackmon unsuccessfully cleared the ball inside his team’s penalty area, allowing Montreal forward Sunusi Ibrahim past goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka.
The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the 57th minute due to the error of Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois, causing striker Brian White to cushion the ball close to the goal.
This is the second year in a row that the Whitecaps have won the Canadian championship.

Until the breakthrough goal, Vancouver was denied a number of acrobatic saves by Sirois, including one where he saved what looked like a solid goal with his foot on the way down.
The Whitecaps overcame Montreal 20-9 as the Quebec team arrived late to threaten Takaoka’s goal.
Canada men’s head coach John Herdman presented the Best Canadian Young Player award to midfielder Ali Ahmed, who missed the game as he continued to recover from his concussion.
Canada Soccer’s interim general secretary and former national team player Jason de Vos presented the George Gross Player of the Year Award to Julian Gressel, who scored an assist in White’s opening goal. .
