Genshin Impact developer: ‘We deeply regret the harm’ after voice actor was accused of sexual abuse
The British voice actor for the Genshin Impact character Tighnari, Elliot Gindi, has been charged with underage fan solicitation, transgender behavior and emotional abuse by Twitch server operators and His Discord. Since then, Gindi has admitted that numerous screenshots of chat logs showing him engaging in such behavior are real, and both he and developer Genshin HoYoverse have issued statements.
The chatlog was posted to Twitter by ConfusedCore And Phiotan, the two executives of Gindi. FretCore shared a 21-page Google Doc document containing screenshots showing multiple victims offering modifications to Gindi’s behavior, including inappropriate photo and video requests, pursuing relationships with persons who are underage, submit pornographic content, and make demeaning or disingenuous remarks against many individuals for being transgender or asexual, including refusing to acknowledge the pronouns of Surname. He is also accused of repeatedly wearing underwear, allegedly standing and stretching in front of the camera while in this state in a situation.
in one Twitlonger posted an apology, Gindi admitted that all the screenshots were real, and asserted that he also engaged in emotional manipulation by threatening suicide if the victim turned himself in. He admitted to streaming his lingerie, though he denied it was for sexual purposes. Gindi also denied “intentionally” engaging in inappropriate behavior with underage people or disrespecting pronoun changers. Gindi has since moved away from social media.
Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse has issued a statement to GamesRadar+:
We deeply regret the harm and damage caused to our fans, gamers, community, and anyone affected. Both our internal team and external partners including our voice acting studio worked together to find an urgent solution. And we will keep you informed of the progress.
Since the accusations came to light, several Genshin Impact voice actors have come forward to denounce Gindi’s behavior and support the victims, including voice actor Aether. Zach Aguilaractor Hu Tao Brianna KnickerbockerRaiden Shogun actor Anne Yatco , actor Xiangling Last Jackieactor Cyno Alejandro Saaband actor Kaeya Josey Montana McCoy.
“Disappointed and angry,” Aguilar said. “I removed Elliot’s live stream and will no longer be affiliated with him. I refuse to give someone like this a platform in any way. Use your power in this way. for the fans it’s disgusting and shameful. My heart aches for the victims of this situation.”
Tighnari was added to Genshin Impact in the most recent major patch 3.0, adding the Sumaru continent, the Dendro element, and introducing Tighnari as one of the first playable characters to use Dendro. It is currently unknown if he will be recast.
