George RR Martin comments on his Elden Ring collaboration
Yesterday, famous writer George RR Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire) took to his blog to make a few comments about his role in the development of From Software’s upcoming Elden Ring. While the blog is brief, the author makes it clear that his work on the Elden Ring goes back many years and focuses on world-building of fantasy worlds that players will investigate next February. . On the blog, Martin comments that video games aren’t really his thing – but then goes on to say that he’s played some old fashioned strategy games like Master of Orion, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Railroad Tycoon. Clearly Martin has a great taste for the games he chooses to replay back in the day!
Martin’s post is pretty clear, in that he’s been working on world-building for the Elden Ring realms. It’s still unclear exactly how this translates to the final game, but given what we’ve seen in net testing, the world is full of exploration, even in that small slice. While the core background story of Tarcked and The Lands Between seems to have some significant similarities to Dark Souls right now, the world itself and much of that history is still unknown, so they are. We’ll have to wait and see exactly what happens. Martin also notes how video games have become bigger than movies in today’s entertainment world. You can check out Martin’s full blog post here. Martin also notes that the Elden ring looks “incredible”. On the last point, I am inclined to agree.
Elden Ring is expected to arrive on February 25th on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Are you looking forward to that?
