Gervonta Davis And Ryan Garcia Fight NOT Happening, De La Hoya Says They’re “Continuing”
Via Dan Ambrose: The CEO of Golden Boy Promotion, Oscar De La Hoya, said last Saturday night that he is abandoning negotiating efforts to host a fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis and will “go on” with another opponent.
According to De La Hoya, no one on Tank Davis’s management answered the phone when he tried to initiate a conversation. In the end, De La Hoya said he felt like he was being run around, so he gave up holding the Davis-Garcia fight together.
If the ‘regular’ WBA lightweight champion supporters at Mayweather Promotions are interested in fighting Ryan, they can always contact De La Hoya to initiate negotiations. Maybe Mayweather wants to keep Tank in the house fighting the PBC boys?
De La Hoya says he will attend Teofimo Lopez’s match this Saturday night against Pedro Campa in Las Vegas with the aim of finding him as a potential opponent to Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) ) fight.
Top Rank promotes former unified lightweight champion Teofimo (16-1, 12 KOs), and it’s unclear if they were involved in a fight between him and Ryan shortly after their November loss to George Kambosos Jr. last or not.
Teofimo looked mentally ruined after that loss, and it might be too risky for Top Rank to put him in with Ryan after just one trust-building match.
Given the huge amount of money Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy were able to earn against the Davis Tank, it’s surprising how quickly De La Hoya would abandon his attempt at creating a war between them.
“Nothing. Hey, we’re trying to take Tank’s side. We don’t know who to talk to. No one picked up their phone, no one called back,” Oscar De La Hoya told ESNEWS about his inability to reach anyone from the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ side to begin negotiations for a war with Ryan Garcia.
“I felt they were playing a game, so I continued, and I will be playing against Teofimo next week,” De La Hoya said.
De La Hoya has been advertising for years, he now knows the signs of a promoter not interested in negotiating.
