Ghulam Nabi Azad resigns from J&K Parliament campaign committee hours after being appointed chairman

Parliament’s senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad – long annoyed with the party – has resigned from the party’s key post in Jammu and Kashmir, signaling an internal uprising. Chairman of the party’s campaign committee, he resigned shortly after his appointment. He also resigned from the party’s Jammu and Kashmir political affairs committee.
Sources indicate that Mr Azad sees the appointments as a dismissal for him as he has been a member of the party’s all-India political affairs committee. A veteran leader, he is also a former State Minister, serving as a trade union minister and holding many important party positions.
The resignation of Mr Azad – one of 23 leaders who wrote an explosive letter to Sonia Gandhi, seeking a change in leadership – comes shortly after his close aide, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, was removed from office as chief of the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit. Mr. Mir resigned last month.
The party carried out a comprehensive organizational reorganization in the Union Territory and appointed Vikar Rasool Wani to replace Mr. Mir.
Party leader Sonia Gandhi has also established advocacy committee, political committee, coordination committee, manifesto committee, publicity and publication committee, disciplinary committee and election commission of Pradesh with immediate effect instantly.
Board elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held after completing the electoral roll and completing the demarcation exercise. However, there is concern that the polls cannot be held this year because the demarcation and revision of the electoral roll cannot be completed before winter begins.
A timeline for the election has yet to be announced.
However, the Electoral Commission recently revised the date of publication of the final list of voters to November 25. This will be the first list of voters of the Union Territory after the boundaries of the seats in the assembly. copper is redrawn during the assignment.
