His first win in the G2 Jockey Club Cup last weekend at Sha Tin lifted his record to eight wins from nine starts and earnings of almost HK$43 million. Romance Warriors can now be found on the market for the G1 Longines Hong Kong Cup on December 11. “He is a good horse and the male is very suitable for Hong Kong,” said Shum. “He was very impressed. I will start him over here and give him more confidence, then I will transfer him to Sha Tin.”
Ho, regular rider of the Golden Sixty, added: “He was a lovely horse, the race went well. He walked out of the gate and strode a few steps to pick and travel on his own with ease and he got the job done. He is very focused. It is a decent horse.”
Bred by Matty Smith and Cloneymore Farm and from the female family of winners G1 Oaks d’Italia and G1 Moyglare Stud S. Menhoubah third (Dixieland Band), the Nordic Dragon was purchased by Lynn Lodge Stud for €88,000 at the Goffs November 2019 Sale and resold to the team at the Hong Kong Jockey Club led by Mick Kinane, for £130,000 at the Orby Sale next fall. Rely On Me is the dam of the Nordic Dragon’s avid eldest brother, who was purchased by JB Bloodstock for 62,000 gns from Baroda Stud consignment in Book 2 of this year’s Tattersalls October Sale.
