Google Pixel Watch on par with Apple Watch, launching in 2022: Report
The Google Pixel Watch has been in the rumors for quite some time now. Previously, Google was supposed to unveil the much-awaited wearable device in October alongside the Google Pixel 6 smartphone. Now, a new report suggests that Google is working on a smartwatch. The first internal patent will be released in 2022. The watch is said to be codenamed “Rohan” and is being developed by Google’s Pixel hardware team. Google’s first smartwatch is also expected to launch with the latest version of Google’s smartwatch software. Google’s upcoming wearable is expected to compete with the Apple Watch.
According to a report by Business Insider, Google is working on a smartwatch and they plan to launch it in 2022. According to the report, the device is internally represented as a “Pixel watch” or an “Android watch”. By Google The upcoming smartwatch is said to have a round design unlike the Apple Watch and it can come without physical bezel. Development of the device is expected to accelerate this year, and Google is said to have asked employees outside of the smartwatch team to test the device and provide feedback. One of the feedback sessions was held in November, the report adds, so launch timelines may change based on feedback from employees testing the device.

Currently, Apple Watch occupies the main market share in the global smartwatch market. Follow latest report by market research firm Counterpoint for the third quarter of 2021, Apple maintained its lead in global smartwatch shipments while Samsung secured second place. Amazfit, Imoo and Huawei are in the top five.
