Gun Runner broke the income record of first-year students Sire descendants
Three chimneys’ Gunman , the horse of the year 2017 and the top 2-year-old stallion worldwide as well as the top 1st stallion in 2021, has set an all-time earnings record for a first-season stallion, making overshadowing the super male Uncle Mo Uncle Ho’s first crop income record was set in 2015. To show the importance of this achievement, Uncle Ho’s first crop income surpassed the previous record set by the legend. Tapit back in 2008.
The previous first-generation progeny earnings record of $3,670,354 as reported by BloodHorse and $3,717,490 as reported by Thoroughbred Daily News, was surpassed on November 28 when Tom Amoss was training. Hottie Shotgun won the first race at Churchill Downs, becoming the 22nd place winner, boosting Gun Runner’s earnings to over $3.8 million. Gun Runner earnings milestones mirror Uncle Mo’s record, which picked two tier 1 winners including undefeated captain NetJets Breeders’ Cup Fillies (G1) Echo Zulu . Their records differ, however, in that Gun Runner picked up a more ranked bet winner than Uncle Mo, with fewer starters.
“Gun Runner’s achievement at the start of his studies is an important achievement for the farm and its philosophy.” Gonçalo Torrealba, owner of Three Chimneys said. “To surpass the record previously set by Uncle Mo and Tapit, it clearly compares Gun Runner favorably at this point to two of today’s most influential males. He not only set set a new generation earnings record but also the top brood in the US, the percentage share winner for runner up out of all the broods, is pretty amazing. thanks to the breeders for continuing to support him with wonderful mares and special thanks to his partner Ron Winchell he has been amazing I am grateful that he has continued his commitment to breeding his best mares and race for their descendants Coach Steve Asmussen has created his legacy through Horse of the Year Gun Runner and his descendants. you, Steve.”
