A season is not guaranteed to breed the first tree to set a record Gunman will be auctioned off at the close of the opening session of the January Sale in Keeneland on January 10, with all proceeds going to benefit victims of the deadly tornado that hit West Kentucky earlier this month.
Three Chimneys President Goncalo Torrealba said: “It is unimaginable the damage and suffering that has been inflicted on so many Western Kentucky communities and good people. “Three Chimneys, our partner Ron Winchell and the entire Thoroughbred horse industry share the pain of those whose lives have been affected and this is how we feel we can directly help.”
The price of the nomination is expected to exceed $100,000. The Three Chimneys and Kentucky Downs will add $100,000 for a total of at least $200,000.
Ron Winchell, Kentucky Downs owner and campaigner Gunman, added, “With additional donations from the Kentucky Downs and Three Chimneys, it shows the racing industry’s commitment to those impacted by the devastation in Western Kentucky.”
All proceeds will go directly to local communities in the affected counties. Inquiries may be directed to the Three Chimneys farm office at (859) 873-7053 or to the Keeneland sales office for those interested in bidding by phone or online during the season.
