Update (May 31, 2022): Jokes about Gup Shitto are back, thanks to the brief appearance of Wookiee Jedi Padawan Gungi in one intro for Bad lot season 2. Gungi first appeared in the Star Wars animated series Clone Wars, so his return to the Star Wars spotlight naturally kicks off a new wave of Gup Shitto celebration and discussion. Temple of Tambor. Wullf Yularen. Plo Koon. There are a few Star Wars people that I know. I actually know a lot of people in Star Wars, which is why I’m surprised I’ve never heard of Gup Shitto. And that’s a name I still see online, in handle social media and discussions about Mandalorian. Now I’ve learned everything there is to know about Gup Shitto.
Like all the best things in Star Wars, Gup Shitto is no classic. He arose out of the mind of Tumblr user gomjabbar on September 3, 2020, as follows parcel:

Since the post first appeared, Star Wars as a franchise has had a number of Gup Shitto moments. The meme has evolved accordingly. In the end, people like me have seen it all Clone War and Star Wars cartoons can have a day in the sun, with characters from those shows and other Star Wars sub-attributes appearing in Mandalorian and in Disney’s Upcoming Star Wars Shows.
In the past, I would just herd people into parties and lecture them on Great Admiral Thrawn, getting more than a glassy look and an empty promise that my chat partner would check. Clone War “sometime.” But now when I do that, I can even see a glint of recognition in their eyes, because Thrawn is a recurring character with a projected foot on a popular show.
No one really ever would like test Clone War. I mean, neither did I at first. It starts slow, and it will be slow for a long time. There are many online listings of best episodesbut all of them are in conflict, because there are related and emotionally resonant messages in all of of episodes, covered with boring stuff that doesn’t find a place until season 2 (or after, depending on who you ask). But I got hold of these weird corners of Star Wars in this post-Rise by Skywalker world. I expect mainstream Star Wars to let me down these days, by simplifying the most complex and amazing aspects of the series into something safer, and sometimes quite okay. . Meanwhile, books, cartoons, comics, and video games can go into other, more silly things – as well as themes and ideas. challenge the status quo Star Wars. The lid feels a bit looser for these fringe properties, and that’s where the good stuff – all Gup Shitto – can shine.
Gup Shitto is mostly just a funny joke about how meaningless Star Wars names are garbled. But to me, at least, he represents the uncanny stubbornness of a section of Star Wars fans, in the face of a series that has suffered massive failures over the past two decades.
