Shibani Bhatia, a dermatologist, explains that chemicals in the air can lead to dull hair and aging due to oxidation.
To combat the side effects of air pollution on your hair and scalp, follow expert recommendations.
Cleanse your scalp: Pollutants in the air can make your scalp and hair greasy. Dandruff can be another problem. Invest in a good shampoo that has salicylic acid and is sulfate-free. Wash your hair regularly to remove sweat, dirt and keep the scalp clean. You can use a cleansing shampoo once a week to deep clean your scalp.
Moisturizing Conditioner: Hair loses its natural moisture due to heat and pollution. Applying conditioner to your hair and letting it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, at least once a week, will give you healthy curls.
– Cover up: If you’re traveling, especially in a two-wheeler, cover your hair with a scarf or cap. Regular exposure to dirt, air and wind can make your hair rough.
Collagen: Hair is made up of keratin and amino acids. Taking collagen supplements can be beneficial because air pollution can cause free radical damage to your hair.
Antioxidants: Neutralize the oxidation your hair faces due to pollution by adding products with antioxidants like vitamins C and E to your hair care regimen.
Exfoliating or Exfoliating Mask: A good exfoliating mask or hair mask, used once for 10-15 days, will remove pollutants that clog upper pores your scalp. Do not use it daily as it can dry out your hair.
If you find your hair damaged and unsure of its source, airborne pollutants could be to blame. It requires both internal and external support to keep your hair looking healthier and fuller.
