Devin Haney will fulfill his dream Saturday night when he heads off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, defending his WBC World Lightweight title against Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz, Jr.
Haney (26-0 15 KOs) booked her title for the fourth time and will be looking to send a statement to the rest of the lightweights following George Kambosos Jr’s astonishing win over Teofimo Lopez over the weekend.
On the other hand, Diaz Jr. (32-1-1 15 KOs), out to foil Haney’s plans to become the new main attraction of the Las Vegas boxing arena. The former IBF super featherweight champion will be looking to make his mark against 135lbs opponents by becoming the first person to beat Haney in professional play.
“It is a dream come true to live in Las Vegas and feature the MGM Grand,” said Haney. “I never thought it would come so quickly, but it is here and now is the time for me to really perform in this great arena and prove that I am here to stay.
“It will be great to be back in front of the fans with full force, there may not be a better place than the MGM Grand for a big battle, I am delighted for this. I know what I’m up against, and I’m ready for it and so are the fans.
“JoJo is a good fighter, he will come to fight, we know that. He’ll bring his best, I’ll bring mine. So the groomsmen will win – and that will be me. You can talk about the size and the heart, but I just feel that I am a better boxer than him and the skill pays.
“When fighters want to fight, it will be done. Sometimes networks and politics get in the way, but nine times out of ten, you can turn any warrior because warriors have power.
“Everybody said ‘I’m going to beat Devin’. I’ve seen that all my life. Did I get this far by letting people rough or beat me? Come on. I can do everything, so you can do whatever you want, it won’t work. I don’t know how you beat me; I can not tell you “.
