Haryana reduces drinking age from 25 to 21

The Haryana government on Wednesday amended the Ecstasy Act that paved the way for lowering the legal age to consume alcohol, buy or sell it from the current 25 years to 21 in the state.
In this regard, the Haryana Bill (Amendment), 2021 has been passed by the State Parliament.
The National Capital Territory of Delhi also recently reduced the age limit to 21. Furthermore, today’s socioeconomic conditions have changed drastically from the time when earlier provisions were included in the Excise Act, according to the Bill, held by Deputy Minister Dushyant Chautala, who also holds List of Special Consumption Taxes, specify.
People are now more educated and engaged in new endeavors and can also make sound decisions when it comes to responsible drinking, the Bill states.
It is worth noting that at the time of formulating the Excise Policy for 2021-22, it was discussed that the drinking age could be reduced to 21 as some states, including Delhi, recently, reduced the age limit to the same age range.
In total, six bills including one related to excise were passed in the Haryana Parliament on Wednesday.
