India’s old camcorder Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has said that he has been discriminated against on the basis of his skin color throughout his life. The cameraman previously responded to a tweet talking about baseball commentators are being trolled online for the comments they make. Commenting on the tweet, Sivaramakrishnan said: “I’ve been criticized and discriminated against all my life, so it doesn’t bother me anymore. This is, unfortunately, happening in our country again. I.” Previously, former Indian opening player Abhinav Mukund has also spoken about the same issue in the past.
Posting a lengthy statement on Twitter, Mukund said: “I have traveled a lot in and out of our country since I was 15 years old. Ever since I was little, people’s obsession with color my skin has always been a mystery to me anyone who watches cricket will understand the obvious i have played and trained day in and day out in the sun and not even once have i regretted it about whether I’ve tanned or lost a few shades.”
“It’s simply because I love what I do and I’ve been able to achieve certain things just because I spent hours outdoors. I’m from Chennai which is probably one of the hottest places in the country. and I have happily spent most of my adult life in the cricket field,” he added.
Over the past few months, racism has become a hot topic of discussion in cricket. In the UK, Azeem Rafiq’s accusations of racism at the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, prompted the ECB to ban the club from hosting any international matches until further notice. .
