Hellmire is clearly on the other side of the galaxy from Maleleon Creek, which couldn't better encapsulate the vast difference in how players feel about both. You know what they have in common? Fire.
Hellmire is a planet held by Terminids resemble bugs, and you would think they would give up or die the moment they looked at it. Hellmire, unlike most planets, is affected by firestorms, which literally means to make the surface look like a vision of Hell. Sure, it honors its namesake, but could it be any less painful? It's common for me to fall into Hellmire in high difficulty activities with overwhelming odds and errors appear from every possible hole on this planet, but I also have to worry about not catching fire on a world that complete agreement is an endless fire that burns it.
Places like Hellmire are particularly suffering from the shifting balance (something that really needs to be fixed) just done by Arrowhead Game Studios has increased the damage of fire from all sources, making any drop to a planet a greater challenge.
Currently, there is a great imperative pushing for the protection of several planets across the entire galaxy. Hellmire was among them, and when I checked its release status early this morning, it was only marginal. That's such a pathetic number (almost as sad as the number of players playing on Hellmire at the moment) that I don't even want to repeat it here. By comparison, another planet in the same system is well on its way to freedom and has a healthy dose of player focus. According to the community, “no one wants Hellmire,” and it's hard to argue with the numbers. The general consensus seems very “Damned,” which can cause a bit of a funny problem for the community and developers, since Hellmire is the focus of many strategic efforts. To the point where players often joke about just smashing bricks and abandoning the planet entirely, and it appears to be becoming a reality, this could have a negative effect on Arrowhead's fluid war story.
Hellmire's hardship is very similar to the planet's core, but it is also similar to the player's mentality, which can sour a bit over the past few months, appears to have chosen Hellmire as its latest target. That, and it has to eat shit to bug and shoot tornadoes constantly. Maybe we'll see Hellmire completely fall apart, or maybe we'll see Arrowhead adjust to community sentiment and stay away from it for a while. Hopefully the studio will fix the fire damage to completely limit that entire aspect of the equation. I beg you, Arrowhead. My crops are burning.
