Holly Humberstone, Lola Young and Bree Runway have all been shortlisted for the 2022 British Rising Star award.
The award recognizes people who have the potential to go on and have great careers in the music industry, and counts the likes of Sam Smith, Adele and Ellie Goulding as past winners.
The trio of women were selected by a special panel of editors, journalists, producers, writers and live musicians.
Holly Humberstone, 21, from Grantham in Lincolnshire, has broken through in recent years with the EP Falling Asleep At The Wheel and has been streamed over 200 million times worldwide.
She has won the Ivor Novello rising star award, runner-up in BBC Sound 2021 and YouTube artist on the rising crown, and has performed on The Late Late Show With James Corden and later.. With Jools Holland .
“Music has always been my whole life, and being nominated for such a prestigious award really means a lot to me,” Humberstone said.
“The recognition from the British is something I’m struggling to absorb at the moment!
“It is truly an honor to be nominated for the British Rising Star Award alongside two other incredibly inspiring female artists.”
Lola Young, 20, has been writing songs since she was 11 and by the age of 13 had won a nationwide open mic competition.
She then enrolled at the world-renowned Brit School in London, and continued to perform around London and landed a recording contract with Island Records.
Her profile includes The Single Woman, as well as her Intro and Renaissance EPs.
Young is also the voice of John Lewis’ new Christmas commercial, which is a cover of Together In Electric Dreams by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder.
She said: “I can’t believe I’ve been nominated for this award. It feels bizarre and completely unexpected.
“I really have to restrain myself when I see other artists who have been nominated before.
“It’s a huge step forward for me and I’m thrilled to be nominated!”
Third nominee Bree Runway performed for Michelle Obama at her school when she was 14, and the then first lady asked her to continue making music.
Runway, 29 and from east London, has been gaining recognition by recording covers on her growing social media accounts.
Her singles from her 2000and4EVA mixtape have seen her acclaim worldwide, and have even appeared on Lady Gaga’s latest remix album, Dawn of Chromatica.
She has also been shortlisted for BBC Sound of 2021 and has won herself the BET Award for Best International Performance.
Runway said: “I feel very honored to be recognized by the British in this way, it’s all very exciting, especially when previous nominees have done such amazing things, I I hope I have that luck too.”
“To attend England alone has been something I’ve wanted to do for years, but attending as a rising star contender is a dream.”
Winner will be announced on December 10.
