Iktara in hand, 75 year old’s victory song in Singhu to motivate farmers

He plays iktara on the Singhu border, where he has been camping regularly since starting his protest against the three agricultural laws. With his songs, Jagar Singh, 75, returned to the site, spurring protesters to continue their fight.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of three agricultural laws that have been at the heart of farmers’ protests over the past year.
On his fourth visit to the Singhu border, the epicenter of the farmers’ protests, Mr Singh, a resident of Patiala district in Punjab, looked happy and in a celebratory mood.
“We’ve won half the battle but there’s still some time for us to return home joyfully. We want the government to put in place legislation to guarantee a minimum support price (MSP),” he said.
He said he had stayed at the Singhu border for a week during his previous three visits. A day after the Center announced three controversial laws, Mr Singh visited the site on Saturday to sing victory songs and encourage protesters to keep fighting.
“Playing iktara is my hobby and over the past few years I have also gradually started to sing. This is my fourth visit to the Singhu border since the protest started. I have a responsibility to my family. at home,” he said.
Mr. Singh said he had also performed at the main stage at the Singhu border protest site.
Malkit Singh (58), a resident of Ropar, said ”nagar kirtan” was held at the border on Sunday morning.
“Today, nagar kirtan is celebrated two days after Gurupurab. It starts from the main stage, we do ‘sewa’ in the kirtan and sweets are distributed during the procession. We want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond. our other requirements so we can go back to our homes,” he said.
The protesters refused to move from the site until their demands were met.
Chad Singh (70 years old), a resident of Patiala, said the protesters had reached one demand, however, “there are other demands that must be accepted by the government”.
“The repeal of the three agricultural laws is a step. There are other requirements for MSP guarantees etc. The government should also compensate family members of the protesters who died here and create jobs. working for their families The farmers spent a lot of money on Mr. Chad said.
Mr. Chad said he held Lohri and Diwali celebrations at Singhu border.
“I went back to my home in Patiala twice and then came here. The first time, I celebrated Lohri and Diwali away from home. My family supported me a lot. They said that I should be at home. rally and win venue, Mr. Chad said.
